Blue Mountains Continued

We drove down a 10 km dirt road in some pretty dense fog to our next campsite. It was close to dark when we arrived at Perry's Lookdown. Luckily, we had been sure to fill up our water tank before heading down the road... When we awoke in the morning, we walked down a sort track (trail to you and me...) to the view at the Lookdown.

Heading down the Perrys Track.

Hamming it up along the trail.

The view from Perry's Lookdown.

After breakfast, we went to explore at the Anvil...and saw our first wild marsupial. We're pretty sure it was a wallaby, but did not get a picture. Then, we headed for a hike into the canyon of the Blue Mountains. It was a nice hike along a pretty stream, through a tunnel and behind a waterfall.

The view from the Anvil.

Climbing on the anvil. We thought it was going to be an anvil shaped rock. Turns out there was an actual anvil attached to the top of this rock.

The gum trees were impressive with their peeling bark and beautiful smells.

Hiking along the track.

In the slower parts of the stream we spotted yabbis, which were bright orange and looked more like miniature lobsters than crayfish.

Here, the track went behind a small waterfall.

The view from behind the falls.

Heading through a tunnel before heading back up to the rim of the canyon.

Then, we headed in the direction of Jenolan Caves. We had looked at a couple of guides at a visitor center and read about 2 potential campsites that were on the way. Of course, I neglected to actually write down directions to the campsites... After going further down the road than we thought we needed to without spotting either campsite and exploring a couple of dirt roads, we decided to just pull into a field and spend the night! It worked out great. We saw a couple more wallabies and got a good night sleep (as good as you can expect in a campervan anyway...)
